One of my absolute favorite things about summer is celebrating the Fourth of July with family, friends, good food, and, of course, fireworks.
Whether you’re looking for a hometown celebration, a lakeside fireworks show, or a full evening of live music and food trucks, there are plenty of great events happening throughout Elkhart County and the surrounding Michiana area this year.
To make planning easier, I’ve rounded up some of the biggest celebrations happening this Independence Day weekend.
Elkhart Independence Day Celebration
📍 Central Green – Elkhart
📅 Saturday, July 4
If you’re staying in Elkhart, this is one of the biggest celebrations of the weekend.
This year’s event celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary and includes live music beginning at 5:00 PM, Food trucks, and Fireworks at nightfall!
The green fills up quickly, so be sure to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and plan to arrive early for parking and the best viewing spots.
Fireworks on the Fairway
📍 Black Squirrel Golf Club – Goshen
📅 Saturday, July 4
This has got to be one of the area’s most unique celebrations!
This event is free to the community and features local food trucks, vendors, and fireworks at 10:00 PM.
Bring a blanket or chair with plenty of space to relax on the golf course while enjoying the show.
Nappanee Independence Day Celebration
📍 Downtown Nappanee
📅 Saturday, July 4
If you enjoy classic small-town Fourth of July celebrations, Nappanee is a tradition you won’t want to miss. The day kicks off with an 11:00 AM parade beginning at Nappanee Elementary School and winding through downtown before ending near City Hall.
As the sun sets, head over to the sledding hill near Thompson Drive to enjoy the community fireworks display and cap off a day of hometown celebration.
Lake Wawasee Fireworks
📍 Lake Wawasee
📅 Saturday, July 4
One of Northern Indiana’s most iconic fireworks shows.
This year marks America’s 250th Birthday with an expanded display launched from seven different locations around the lake. Fireworks begin around 10:15 PM and don’t forget to tune into Willie 103.5 FM for synchronized music.
Whether you’re watching from shore or on a boat, it’s an unforgettable experience.
Syracuse Lake Fireworks
📍 Syracuse Lake
📅 Friday, July 3
Kick off your Fourth of July weekend with one of the area’s most beautiful lakeside fireworks displays. Fireworks begin at 10:00 PM, making it the perfect excuse to spend the day on the water before settling in for an unforgettable show.
Howard Park Celebration (South Bend)
📍 Howard Park
📅 Friday, July 3
Howard Park is one of my favorite family-friendly Fourth of July celebrations just outside Elkhart County. Enjoy kids’ activities, live music by Day Train, an outdoor showing of The Incredibles, food vendors, and fireworks to close out the evening.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a memorable night in downtown South Bend.
New Paris Speedway
📍 New Paris Speedway
📅 Friday, July 3
Looking for something a little different?
The Celebration of Independence is packed with Racing, the famous Night of Destruction, and Fireworks at dusk.
This event requires admission, but it’s a fun option for racing fans.
Bristol Homecoming Festival
📍 Bristol
📅 July 9–11
Although it’s a few days after Independence Day, the Bristol Homecoming Festival is definitely worth adding to your summer calendar.
This beloved community tradition features carnival rides, live entertainment, delicious food, a parade, the Homecoming Queen Pageant, and a fireworks show at dusk to wrap up the festivities.
It’s one of my favorite local events and a great way to continue celebrating with family and friends.
Tips Before You Go
✔ Bring lawn chairs or a blanket.
✔ Don’t forget bug spray.
✔ Bring water and snacks.
✔ Plan to arrive early.
✔ Expect traffic after the fireworks.
✔ If you’re bringing kids, glow sticks are always a hit!
Why I Love Living in Michiana
One of the things I love most about living here is how every community celebrates in its own way.
Whether you’re watching fireworks over the lake, spending the evening downtown, or enjoying a hometown parade, these events are part of what makes summers in Michiana so special.
If you’re thinking about making this area your home, I’d love to help you find the perfect place to enjoy traditions like these for years to come.
Happy Fourth of July!
